Davidson River
The Davidson River is probably the most famous river in North Carolina. It has the biggest fish in the state, and the most experienced. This is a crowded river, that routinely yields opportunities at fish of a lifetime. I love it. It can be very tough, but all it takes is one chance at a 25" brown trout to make you want to come back the next day. When the Davidson is good it is as good as anything out there. Pisgah National Forest Delayed Harvest Streams
This category has too many rivers to list. The highlights include the North Mills and the West Fork of the Pigeon. These rivers generally offer more solitude and some offer a little hiking. These streams are stocked from early fall to late spring and usually offer great opportunities to enjoy a quiet North Carolina day and catch some trout. Wild Streams Wild Streams are great during late spring and early summer. They usually require a hike and offer the most private fishing opportunities in North Carolina. The trout are usually smaller, but size isn't why you go into the North Carolina Back Country.
